A sound bath is an experience in which you lie down and listen to gentle live music all around you.
Settle into a comfortable position in a space filled with sound. You do not have to focus intently or try to feel anything special.
Take a break from the constant thinking of everyday life and enjoy some quiet time for yourself.

What Happens During a Sound Bath?
The instruments and format of a sound bath vary by artist and venue. Here is what to expect at a typical session with Magali Luhan in Tokyo. Guidance is primarily in Japanese.

1. Settle In and Take a Breath
Lie down on a mat and rest your body. Gentle guidance, such as a breathing exercise, helps you settle into the quiet of the space.
2. Listen to Live Music Around You
Crystal singing bowls, chimes, and other instruments ring out slowly. Some sounds feel close; others fade into the distance. There is no correct way to listen—simply notice whichever sounds catch your attention.
3. Rest in the Quiet After the Music
When the music ends, there is time to rest in silence before returning to your day. Sit up at your own pace and take the experience with you.
Some sessions also include yoga or vocal practices. Check each event listing for its content and duration.
Finding a Little Space Within
What matters to me in a sound bath is not only the sound of the instruments, but also the way it fades and the silence that follows.
Surrounded by gentle sounds, you may begin to notice your breathing or sensations that usually pass unnoticed. In those moments, you may find a little space within.
The experience grows out of each listener’s own senses. My role is to thoughtfully create the sounds and the space in which that can happen.
Listening with Your Whole Body
I call lying down, releasing tension, and noticing the sound around you Full-Body Listening. Rather than following every sound with your ears, you let your whole body rest.
Listening to Sound and Silence
Deep Listening is also important to my approach: noticing subtle changes in sound, its fading resonance, your breathing, and the space around you. It is not a task in sustained concentration. Simply return your attention gently when you notice.
